This year we had No Rain ……. Just perfect biking weather
For the 4th year running we held our own event, still named Forum Fun Day (Its not a race...honest)
based in Selkirk heading up over the Three brethren and using our favourite Yair Forest trails.
After last years washout, we were pleased to wake up to clear skies but with a cooler temperature, making it possible for us to run all the extra bonus tasks mid-stages.
This really is all about having fun, bring out new members and riding our bikes! We however came up with some easy tasks that had the competitors using their brains for a change! Also it levelled the field and gave the non racers amongst us a bit of a chance
:-)
After a few riders bailing for one dodgy reason or another, we all set off up the first climb from Selkirk to the stage start.
Stage 1 is a pure hill climb up to the 3 Brethren. Ok with an added twist half way up, and Dawn ready to greet everyone. This challenge was to split a chain, using your own tools and then complete the climb to the top.
Stage 2 saw everyone head downhill from the 3 Brethren, taking in some of the best Singletrack in the area. Some of these trails are used in the Selkirk Merida (CRC Mountain Bike Marathon series) so some folks are very familiar with them.
After a gentle ride together up to the start of Stage 3, we waited while Toni headed in to the buzzard Lair alone..... She called to say "START the riders, I can hear the Buzzard circling above" SO I set them off! One by one at 30 second intervals they headed up a short technical climb then downhill through some great singletrack carved through a clear fell and then into the Buzzard Lair! The trails were slick with the recent rain and I could hear the whoops and laughs from them snaking their way down to the finish.
Stage 4 was another climb stage, a tough climb at best but after the riding so far people were gonna suffer! This stage took us all back up to the saddle just below the Three Brethren. A lot of laughs and a well earned break before we headed on a slow plod up to the top for the final stage!!
This is my favourite stage, a Mass Le Mans start downhill. It goes straight down from the Three brethren right down to the valley floor and the finish at the Corbylin car park.
I set them off and they ran through the gate, grabbed their bikes and were off! Screaming and laughing lol it was a sight to see! Only one puncture the whole day from everyone, and it had to happen on the best stage too doh! Anyway Swayne (Viking) stopped whilst leading to fix it and watch the others fly by. His race was done. He didn't mind as it had been fun and still had some great downhill to go :-)
After we all finished, talked and packed the bikes we headed to the local cafe to work out the final results and present the trophy to the winner.
Well done to Colin (ckc) for taking the win.
What a cracking day everyone had, and they were already talking about next year and wondering what we will think up for them by then!
Come join the forum below and see the fun we have!
